CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: PIN CONNECT CENTRE REPRESENTATIVES


The dawn of PIN Connect Centres on September 9, 2016 has been a huge success to Poets in Nigeria (PIN). In view of this, and in response to calls for new Connect Centres, applications/indications of interest to serve as PIN representatives for new Connect Centres within Nigerian localities are welcome.

FOCUS
(a) Expand the impact of poetry beyond borderlines.
(b) Ensure uniformity in the promotion of poetry and poets.
(c) Engender diversified participation in literary activities.
(d) Properly synergize the activities of PIN for the realisation of poetry for service.

DUTIES
Coordination of PIN’s activities within assigned Connect Centres viz:
i) Promote poetry based on PIN’s philosophy.
ii) Hold poetry reading/fellowships as convenient.
iii) Participate in PIN’s Poetry summits.
iv) Document all activities of the Connect Centre.

ELIGIBILITY
Must be a poet or non-poet with evidence of passion for literary promotion driven by poetry
Must be resident of location where connect centre would be established and have a good grasp of the environment
Have the capacity to build harmonious relationship with poets and literary minds within and beyond area of residence
Have demonstrable strength of character for use of poetry for individual and societal uplift.
Must be an active user of the internet/social media
Not holding similar position in any literary group to avoid dissipation of efforts
Ready to be guided by Poetry for Service

Encouraged and guided towards greatness whilst becoming guides to others;

Exposed to literary opportunities like poetry festivals, literary contests, literary; residencies/workshops etc.;

KEN EGBAS Poets in Nigeria (PIN) in partnership with Festival Poetry Foundation (FPF) is pleased to announce the inaugural edition of Ken Egbas Prize for Festival Poetry Calabar. Sponsored by an art enthusiast and a Former Special Adviser, Strategic Planning at Cross River State – Mr. Ken Egbas; the prize is geared towards promoting cultural heritage, black pride and environmental consciousness.

The initiative, an offshoot of the annually organized Festival Poetry Calabar, was launched in Calabar 2016 via an address delivered by Ken Egbas who was visibly impressed by the contents of the festival (within the Calabar International Carnival). The prize will run uninterruptedly for a period of 5 years with a total budget of ₦500,000.

REWARD
Authors of selected entries will be awarded cash prizes in this order:
1st Prize Winner: ₦40,000
2nd Prize Winner: ₦20,000
3rd Prize Winner: ₦10,000

ELIGIBILITY
Must be a Nigerian poet resident in Nigeria
Must be between 12 and 30 years of age

GUIDELINES
Entries must revolve around cultural heritage, black pride and environmental consciousness.

An entrant is entitled to a single entry of limitless word count.
Submissions must be original, intellectual property of the entrants.
Under no condition will the judges’ decision be challenged.
Previously published works (on social media, blogs and anthologies) are NOT allowed.
Selected entrants must be present in Calabar to receive their cash prizes.
Submissions including your name, location, biography and contact details should be in the body of the mail.

Entering for the contest gives us automatic rights to make use of your works as deemed appropriate.

THE NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE CORPS (NYSC) REGISTRATION AND MOBILIZATION



The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has published requirements for Registration/Mobilization, as qualified graduates prepare for this year’s Batch B service.
Graduates are to visit the NYSC portal via www.nysc.org.ng for online registration and bio-metric data capture.
Here is a list of requirements that will qualify you for REGISTRATION and MOBILIZATION:
1.             Prospective Corps members should ensure that they have functional e-mail addresses that they can access and Nigerian (GSM) telephone numbers with which to register.
2.             Locally trained prospective Corps members are expected to use correct Matriculation numbers to register
3.             For locally-trained graduates, only those whose names appear in the Senate/Academic Board Approved Result lists submitted by their Institutions will have access to the register on the NYSC portal.
4.             Foreign-trained prospective corps members should ensure that their Institutions are accredited. Where in doubt, it is their responsibility to approach Federal Ministry of Education for verification. The letter of verification must be uploaded during registration.
5.             Those who graduated from Institutions outside Nigeria, (Foreign-Trained Graduates), are to visit the NYSC portal, register and upload the following documents:
a.                  West African School Certificate (WASC) (with not less than 5 Credits at 2 sittings) or its equivalent; or General Certificate of Education (GCE O’ Level) (with not less than 5 Credits at 2 sittings) or its equivalent; or NECO (with not less than 5 Credits at 2 sittings) or its equivalent; or High School Diploma or its equivalent.
b.                  First Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) Certificate (Second Degree or Ph.D. not necessary).
c.                  Transcript of the first Degree or HND.
d.                  International Travelling Passport showing data page and date of departure for the course of study.
6.             It is the responsibility of the prospective corps members who studied in non-English speaking countries to get their Certificates and Transcripts translated into English language before uploading.
7.             All graduates of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Physiotherapy, Radiology, Optometry, Medical Laboratory Science and Pharmacy are expected to have their Certificates of Registration with their professional bodies. Payment receipts are not acceptable.
8.             Unlike in the past, Foreign-trained graduates should NOT visit NYSC Headquarters, Abuja for verification of their documents. This exercise will now be done at the Orientation Camps. They should simply print their call-up letters on-line and report at the Orientation camps in their States of deployment, but should come to the camp with the original documents they uploaded for verification.
9.             Anybody who presents any fake document will be demobilized and decamped.
10.         Prospective corps members should ensure that Passport photographs used meets the following specifications:
a.                  Ensure your face (eyes, nose, ears, mouth and jaw) is fully shown without bending
b.                  Ensure the picture fills the frame and centralized
c.                  Ensure the Photo background is white or off-white with no shadow.
11.         On no account should prospective corps members register by PROXY. They should also remember the fingers used for their biometric capturing as these will be used for verification at the orientation camps. Those who cannot be verified with their biometric at the orientation camp will not be registered.
12.         Only prospective corps members who want their call-up numbers sent to them through SMS and wish to PRINT their call-up letters on-line are expected to pay (see NYSC Portal on how to make payment).
13.         Prospective Corps members, who do not want to pay, have the option of going to their schools to collect their call-up numbers and call-up letters.
14.         All prospective corps members who paid for the online registration before but were not mobilized need not pay again.
15.         Married female prospective corps members (whether locally or foreign-trained) should upload copies of their marriage Certificates, evidence of Change of name and their husbands’ place of domicile during registration.
16.         The orientation camp is highly not ideal for pregnant and nursing mothers. Prospective corps members in this category are therefore to note that they will not be accommodated.

NOTICE OF COMMENCEMENT OF REGISTRATION AND SCREENING EXERCISE FOR DIRECT ENTRY CANDIDATES FOR 2017/2018 ACADEMIC YEAR

This is to inform candidates who made University of Uyo their First Choice in the 2017/2018 Direct Entry Admission that the University Direct Entry registration has commenced. Candidates are therefore advised to apply for Screening Exercise scheduled to hold as follows:

METHOD OF APPLICATION
Eligible candidates should pay a non-refundable sum of 2,000 naira only (excluding bank charges and admission status checking) via the university portals.

ONLINE REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT INSTRUCTION
1.                 visit uniuyo.edu.ng/eportals  or uniuyo.edu.ng
2.                 Select Admission Forms Link
3.                 Select Direct Entry as the admission form type.
4.                 Click on MAKE PAYMENT NOW button to make payment.
5.                 Payment can be made online using ATM/CARD OR INTERNET BANKING or any branch of all the commercial banks using pre-payment slip through REMITA platform.
6.                 After payment return to the online portal and click on register link to obtain your login credentials to complete your registration.
7.                 printout the 2017/18 screening exercise schedule slip


REQUIREMENT
1.                 The same passport photo used for the online registration will be used during the screening exercise and for registration after the offer of admission.
2.                 No compliant of wrong bio-data or blank photograph will not be entertained after submission.
3.                 Uploading of wrong BIODATA will automatically lead to disqualified
4.                 Inconsistency in passport on the registration slip will not be acceptable to the university. Candidates’ names on their credentials and other registration documents must be the same.

CANDIDATES ARE REQUIRED TO COME TO THE SCREENING EXERCISE WITH THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
1.                 The original and photocopies of candidate’s academic qualifications.
2.                 One copy of the university of Uyo 2017 online registration form duly completed with the passport-size photograph printed in colour.
3.                 One recent passport-size photograph on red background with the name, Direct Entry registration number and signature of the candidates on the reverse side of the photograph.
4.                 These should be packed in quarto-size envelope and labeled with name, department and JAMB registration number.
